The First ASEAN Trade Mark Convergence Network Meeting

ARISE+ IPR hosted the first meeting of the ASEAN Trade Mark Convergence Network in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 31 October to 1 November 2019. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation among ASEAN IP offices on trade marks and support trade mark-related initiatives, with a long-term goal of creating more points of convergence and minimising divergence in ASEAN IP systems, specifically in the area of trade marks.

During the two-day meeting, ASEAN Member States voiced strong support for the ASEAN Trade Mark Convergence Network, which they hope will increase trade mark service quality in the region. The meeting also featured a discussion on updates to and the future of ASEAN TMclass, the database of terms accepted by ASEAN IP offices used to identify classes of goods and services.

The meeting was attended by senior trade mark officials from ASEAN Member States IP offices, representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, experts from the EUIPO and representatives of ARISE+ IPR.
