Follow-up Trainings for Examiners on Madrid Protocol Operations and Trade Mark Examination

The ARISE+ IPR team supported the Follow-up Training on Madrid Protocol Operations and Trade Mark Examination for examiners from the IP Offices respectively of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia and Lao PDR on 8 and 10 December 2020. The follow-up training served as subsequent sessions of the one-week attachment training provided to these examiners by ARISE+ IPR and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in Manila, the Philippines during 5-9 August 2019.

More than a year after, the follow-up training took place online. It engaged IPOPHL trainers with examiners from the respective offices and allow the trainers to oversee the examination of Madrid files in the offices. The trainers also assessed the examiners' progress and the result of their learnings from the attachment training and answer any queries that may arise during the examination process. Challenges and best practices regarding working from home among the COVID-19 situation were shared and discussed during the meetings.

The activity aimed to strengthen the Madrid implementation and to achieve a more consistent approach in handling Madrid international registrations (IRs) and international applications (IAs) in the IP Offices of ASEAN Member States.
