Training on the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Examination and Registration of Industrial Designs

From 29-30 October 2019, ARISE+ IPR will provide ASEAN design examiners with a training on the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Examination and Registration of Industrial Designs (hereinafter called “the Common Guidelines).

The Common Guidelines, which were developed within the framework of the EU-ASEAN Project on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights (ECAP III project), were drafted based on national laws, regulations, jurisprudence and available guidelines of the ASEAN IP Offices. The main purpose of the Common Guidelines is to improve the quality, consistency and transparency of the registration process of designs across the ASEAN region. The Common Guidelines are intended to complement the existing ASEAN IP Offices’ internal guidelines and manuals, and to support a convergence of the design examination standards and criteria applied by the ASEAN IP Offices.

This will be the first training to be conducted since the Common Guidelines were approved. The training will use the Common Guidelines (version 2018) as the key training document and it will follow a train-the-trainer methodology, to ensure the dissemination of knowledge and information at the national level in all ASEAN Member States afterwards.
