Seminar on IP case law for Georgian judges
In the framework of the 3rd annual work plan, the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) supported the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) in compiling a list of decisions on trade marks, designs, copyright and IP enforcement, taken by the Court of Justice of the European Union, the General Court, and the EUIPO Boards of Appeal (BoA).
The decisions were chosen based on their normative and interpretative relevance with respect to the relevant intellectual property (IP) legal systems. They are being translated into Georgian and will be shared with enforcement authorities and officials from Sakpatenti, who are in charge of interpreting and applying IP jurisprudence.
On 11 and 12 November, a seminar aimed at Georgian judges will be organised, where judges from EU Member States, reférendaires from the European court of justice (EJC) and lawyers from the EUIPO will present some of the main cases from the compilation. The 2-day event will be an opportunity for Georgian judges to meet and discuss the most relevant IP cases.
The seminar will strive to improve the quality of judicial and administrative procedures in Georgia on the enforcement of IP rights, by increasing the level of predictability of judges’ IP decisions. It will help to create the best possible conditions for European and Georgian companies to invest and trade in the region by ensuring that trade-related rules, including IP rights, are respected and implemented.
